The Citadel™ is a faithful tribute to the legendary “Center Volume” late 1959/early 1960 5G12 Concert.
These early 5GX Professional Series Brownface amps featured many differences from the later 6GX and 6GX-A versions, such as: Tweed-era output transformers, Yellow Astron coupling caps, pinkish-beige tolex and tweed-style “oxstripe” grill cloth; a unique harmonic vibrato with a unique (5) preamp tube circuit; Jensen Alnico P10Q speakers and of course the unique “Center Volume” layout on the front panel
Starting with an early 1960 Concert (s/n 00488), the layout, circuit and component values have been documented and verified to ensure an accurate “Center Volume” spec. As with all of Cutthroat Audio’s offerings, it will have several innovative features that add to the versatility of the amp, without altering the basic DNA of these legendary early 5GX Professional Series Brownface circuits.
